Soling in Footing for Foundation
Soling in footing is a technique used in construction to provide stability and support to a structure. It involves adding a layer of sand, dust or other solid material to the bottom of the foundation of a building or other structure. This helps to distribute the weight of the structure evenly across the ground and prevent it from sinking or shifting.
There are a number of reasons why soling in footing may be necessary. For example, if the soil on which a structure is being built is not stable or has a high water table, soling in footing can help to provide a more secure foundation. It can also be used to correct problems with an existing foundation, such as settling or cracking.
There are a few different methods for soling in footing, depending on the specific needs of the project and the type of soil present. One common method is called mass concrete soling, which involves pouring a large quantity of concrete directly into the soil to create a solid base. Another method is called reinforced soling, which involves adding steel reinforcing bars or mesh to the concrete to increase its strength and stability.
It is important to consult with a professional engineer or contractor when considering soling in footing for a construction project. They can assess the needs of the project and recommend the best method for providing a stable foundation. Proper soling in footing can help to ensure the long-term stability and safety of a structure.
Overall, soling in footing is a valuable technique for providing a stable foundation for a building or other structure. By ensuring that the weight of the structure is evenly distributed and the foundation is secure, soling in footing can help to prevent problems such as settling and cracking, and ensure the long-term durability of the structure.
To find soling in footing, we have to find the volume of the sand soling. Generally, the height of the soling is 75mm. and is 100 mm taken outer from the edge of the footing.
Suppose the
Suppose, the length of the foundation is 3400mm
The breadth of the foundation is 2600mm, the depth
is 5400mm and the number of foundations is 15, then our values will be
L = 3400 or 3.4m
B = 2600 or 2.6m
D = 5400 or 5.4m
Then, the length of the soling will be L= 3400 + 100
= 3500mm or 3.5m
And the breadth will be B = 2600 + 100 = 2700mm or
2.7m
Height is 75mm or 0.075m
Then the value of sand soling under one footing will
be
L x B x H= 3.5 x 2.7 x 0.075 mᶟ
= 0.0708 cu m
And for 15 nos. of footing
15 x 0.0708 cu m
=10.631 cu m
